Although oil filled radiators offer a wonderful heat source for the home, they have to be used in a safe manner. To prevent accidents from happening it is important that you take certain precautions. Following the simple measures which are preventative in nature will lead to fewer accidents.

It is important not to connect your oil filled radiator to the electricity supply via an extension lead. This is because some extension wires are just not up to supporting the wattage requirements of some radiators. It is common knowledge that extension wires only support a maximum wattage, and this is sometimes not enough for radiator requirements. Unfortunately there are also many people not aware of this fact, and thin wires of an extension lead are not designed for the wattage of the radiators could easily overheat and cause a fire.

For those who wish their oil filled radiator to be controlled using a timer switch, be sure to purchase a radiator with an integrated switch. The reason for this is that radiators designed with the switch incorporated can switch themselves off should they start to overheat. If an external timer switch is used instead, this could have an effect on the internal workings of the radiator, rendering the safety shut off switch useless.

You should also make sure that children are not able to push or move the radiators in any way. Pushing it too far can tighten the power lead leading to a dangerous trip hazard. This may cause a loose connection and therefore a short circuit, which itself could pose a fire hazard. You should make sure it is in a secure location and cannot be moved about by children as it could be pushed over and be damaged resulting in the hot oil leaking out.

Taking the simple precautions will ensure the long life of the oil filled radiator.

This winter period is going to be ever so cold, so make sure that you have the needed cheap heating oil in place.

It is not uncommon for people to collect vast amounts of glassware that usually gets shoved into every spare available space in the house and garden shed. However, whenever somebody comes round to visit, they pull out the same old set of wine glasses or whisky glasses that they always use. You might think that this hording of glassware is a waste of space, but the recent discovery of some gems in peoples houses seem to be proving otherwise.

Last year a women in Alabama found some incredibly expensive wine glasses in her basement, and since then there have been hundreds of reported cases of glassware goldmine finds. A relative from overseas had come to visit the women and was helping her clear out her basement when he recognized the glassware brand. They turned out to be very rare vintage Riedel wine glasses, which she sold at auction for $30,000. Similar stories have now been popping up all over the place and there are even some businesses now that offer to send round antiques experts to peoples homes to sniff out the expensive pieces.

LSA, a company who make glass vases, have released finding of a study they commissioned which suggested that people in America have an average of $1000 worth of glassware in their homes, and most people think their collections are worthless. To help with the identification of pricey items, LSA suggests that you keep an eye open for quality brands such as Spiegelau, Waterford and Ravenscroft. They state that how much an item is worth often comes down to the clarity of the glass, the detailing on it, and how good the finishing is. Additionally, most good manufacturers add hallmarks on the base of their glassware. They advise taking any items you think might be worth something to an antiques shop, which are usually very happy to give a valuation on the glass. Bear in mind however that if they are interested in the piece they will likely suggest a slightly lower price than it is worth.

There are many reasons as to why the prices of home heating oil can fluctuate. Some times the prices can stay constant for a long time, yet at others they can fluctuate wildly almost on a daily basis. When there is enough oil being held by both wholesalers and customers, you can expect the prices to remain steady. Conversely, when we see drops in temperature, then the demand for oil skyrockets and we experience drops in the levels of oil available, therefore leading to fluctuations in the price. It is very obvious, therefore, that if everybody were looking to increase their supply of oil at the same time, the prices are bound to take an upward turn. But the problems of cold weather and an increase in demand for oil are not the only issues; cold temperatures and adverse weather conditions can also have an effect on the delivery of oil to both wholesalers and customers alike.

As everybody starts looking to buy extra oil, it is only natural that at some point the oil reserves are going to start to dwindle. When the demand is very high, especially in cold weather snaps, there is a huge pressure on the oil refineries to keep producing more oil to keep up with demand. Obviously with demand for oil being so high, wholesalers will do all that is possible to try and buy in more oil so that their clients are not left short. Because it very often ends up as a bidding war between these wholesalers, the price of the oil tends to start increasing.

Another reason for increases in oil prices is the fact that when the weather gets really cold, other heating fuel prices can also soar even higher than oil and cause some people to switch from other fuels to oil. This can further drive the price of oil up by increasing the demand.

This winter period is going to be ever so cold, so be certain that you have purchased your heating oil from boilerjuice for great deals.

You know it’s time to get yourself a garage heater when you find that you cannot actually do much work in the garage during the cold winter months. If your garage is an attached one, adding a heater is not difficult as all you have to do is add a heating duct to the garage. If your garage is a detached one, don’t worry as you still have various options.

The most popular and easiest option you have are electric garage heaters. These heaters are the better choice for use in small areas that require little heating or in garages where it is difficult to install gas and hot water garage heaters.

Electric heaters should be used only if you are sure you have sufficient power to use it without any breaks.Basically, a 100 amp service is sufficient; however to be on the safer side, it is better to note the heater’s power specs before using it.

Electric heaters are easy to install, can be easily used after installation and are usually available in the compact form. These heaters are practically maintenance free, especially if compared to other types of heaters. Most of the portable heaters found today are electric garage heaters.

Some garage heaters will come with a mounting kit so you can have the exact equipment for making sure that your heater is placed in a convenient out of the way place. Depending on your garage, you can place your heater either on the wall or the ceiling. Obviously if you have an overhead opening garage door, it may not be possible to place your heater on the ceiling. You can choose a model which needs to be wired directly to your electrics or you can get one that has a plug which can just be plugged into an available socket.

Most people have gas central heating in their homes and many are not aware that there is another type of fuel that can be used for central heating and that is oil. Oil is used in place of gas mainly in areas were the homes do not have access to a pipe line. And this is not as rare an occurrence as the typical townie or city dweller would think.

There are many individuals that choose to live in the countryside, and therefore find themselves in remote locations. Because of the location, often it is quite far to the next house and as such, this makes it difficult to pipe in gas, but they have to warm their houses in some way. On top of this, countryside homes become colder in the winter than their city or town counterparts because they are very exposed. Oil is usually the fuel of choice for central heating in the countryside.

Although the two systems work in exactly the same way, i.e. heating up the water to warm the radiators, it is just the method used to heat the water that differs one uses a oil fired boiler while the other a gas boiler. The only real difference between the two, and one that is probably deemed as a disadvantage, is the fact that oil has to actually be delivered to the house. Nevertheless, those people that do have oil based central heating systems get used to this and eventually don’t see it as a problem at all. People who have never had oil central heating before though, may find the idea of having an oil tank in the garden somewhere rather strange, not to mention the fact that they would have to phone up to order the oil.

Nevertheless, for those people living in rural spots, oil based central heating systems are the only sort they can have, so it offers the perfect alternative to other systems such as gas.

Oil filled radiators are a cost effective way to keep warm in the colder months especially for the elderly. When compared to perhaps the more traditional forms of heating such as gas and electric heaters or central heating, oil filled radiators come out ahead.

Central heating can be quite expensive and electric heaters can become extremely hot up close. Not only this, but electric heaters are never that effective at managing to heat up a space or room. The elements of the electric heater are also exposed, meaning there is a very real fire hazard risk in the wrong situation. And gas heaters have the problem of dangerous fumes escaping, which can make these hazardous as well.

Oil filled radiators though, are both safe to use and economical to run because they are energy efficient. They are filled with a heat conserving oil which is heated up and then circulated throughout the radiator. This heat is then obviously “radiated” out into the room or space it is being used in where it heats the cold air it comes into contact with. The oil inside the radiator is not burned so it never needs to be replaced making it very cost effective.

When it comes to heating for the elderly, these radiators are deemed perfect because they do not waste heat as the keep the room at the perfect temperature. Everybody knows that all old people dread the cold weather of winter time as many of them cannot afford the extortionate prices that come with today’s heating bills. We hear many horror stories of the old and infirm getting sick during the winter months because they are very reluctant to switch on their central heating. Oil filled radiators can help people reduce heating costs in winter, helping them stay warm and healthy. They are safe to use and the surface temperature of the radiator does not reach dangerous levels.

This winter is going to be ever so bitter, so make sure that you have purchased your heating oil from boilerjuice for great deals.

One of the most respected TV hosts in the world has commented on her approval of a house in Denmark that has been designed using an all-white colour scheme, which makes the most out of limited space.

Oprah Winfrey visited a Danish home and was very impressed with the use of space and furniture, which included white bedroom furniture, white tables, chairs, cabinets and bedside tables. She even commented that it is no wonder Denmark is classed one of the happiest countries in the world, with such a light and airy lifestyle.

“One thing’s for sure – they certainly don’t need a lot of space to have a happy, organized home.” She had a good look around the family home that housed 5 children and two adults, and was amazed at just how small the little one’s rooms were. She even noted, “whilst there was not much room in there, you never felt like it was small or restrictive”.

By all accounts the kitchen was no less snug, but at the same did not feel inadequate due again to the clever use of space. The dining room furniture was also light and made use of well. This is quite common in Danish homes, where limited space means families have to use it intelligently and with a careful choice of colors. It is very easy to end up having a dark and cluttered room when you have little space the owner of the home pointed out. “It’s a balance between having what is needed out on show, and what is not needed stored carefully”.

Winfrey has recently purchased a new home in Florida and has been keeping her eye out for styling tips lately. She even commented that it is no wonder Denmark is classed one of the happiest countries in the world, with such a light and airy lifestyle. “If i can capture the spirit of Africa, but introduce some Danish style and clean lines then I think I’ll have what I’m looking for” Oprah stated.

Because of the typical weather than we get in England, cold, it’s important to be ready for the Winter months. So with Autumn already here, it’s about the right time to prepare yourself for the Winter chill.

Being prepared for the Winter cold is very important, especially if you have young or elderly relatives living with you. Central heating is one of the most important things you should have, however, there are a number of things you should consider having just in case.

Although it’s starting to get colder, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy the outside well into November. One item that helps you get the most out of the outside are outdoor heaters. These days you can buy a range of patio heaters including wall mountable and portable ones. Also, because of the advances in technology, patio heaters are designed to be less damaging to the environment now.

Once the full Winter chill starts, you’ll want to make sure you’re inside. There are a few products that go hand in hand with your central heating. The first product would be electric fan heaters. Fan heaters are perfect if you need a quick burst of heat rather than having to wait for the central heating to turn on. Similar to patio heaters, fan heaters can come portable and wall mountable.

The third and final great product you could have this winter would be oil filled radiators. Oil filled radiators are great for bringing a constant heat supply to anywhere in your house. These portable radiators are great for heating individual rooms that don’t have central heating such as lofts or conservatories.

Current estimations from the Met Office suggest that this year’s Winter will be an average Winter, however, there are chances that it could turn into a cold one. It sounds like the right time to prepare yourself.
